Podcasters, Preserve Your Freedoms!

Blubrry reminds podcasters to preserve their freedoms.

We’ve heard rumors that some free hosting services might be restricting you to only their platform and only their ad deals. Seriously gals and guys, what’s the real price of “free hosting” when you’re not able to grow your audience, make money on your own and maintain control of your show?

And there’s something else we’ve heard, too. We’ve heard that on one of the paid hosting platforms when your show gets X-amount of listeners and viewers, the host inserts a pre-roll and post-roll ad of its own service onto your content. That’s just not right. It’s not free enterprise. It’s not the Blubrry way.

If I ever start to forget why I wanted to do something for the podcast community, all I have to do is look at the stream of love that keeps pouring into my inbox.  Thanks everyone for the support you shown me in the last few days.  You all warm my heart.

Blessings and Love to all,

Time to put the index aside

2010
07.27

I’m going to send this out to all the pertinent people through email, but wanted to post it here first.  I have been doing the index for almost 2 years now and I think the time has finally come for me to put my indexing of podcasts aside, at least for the time being.  I am doing this for several reasons.

First and probably the most important, I have been finding over the past few months that I am no longer listening to podcasts to absorb their content.  It is more like I am merely skimming them to be able to get the index out.  As a result, I am missing a lot of the fun and information they provide.

Second, there are several new podcasts that I am wanting to listen to.  One in particular that I love is by a couple of baby pagans just learning to walk the path.  Pagan Hooligans.  This one interests me just for that very reason.  I have just been where they are and am loving the similarities to my own journey.  When I do indulge myself, I am feeling guilty because I’m not getting an index out.

Third, and also very important, I index at work.  I am a computer programmer by trade and am behind a computer 7-9 hours a day which gives me a perfect opportunity to do the index.  I can jot down notes while working and email them to my home account to enter that night.  However, after paying attention to my working habits over the past few weeks, I am finding that I’m not giving my full attention to my work when I’m indexing.  We are just spinning up on the next release of our product, and I want to be able to devote all of my attention to the project and not the index.

Finally, if I’m not able to index because of vacation or project load the back log amplifies the issues above and that just takes the enjoyment right out of it and I don’t want something I love doing to become a chore.

My intent is to step back and get back to listening to podcasts for enjoyment and information, not to close the site down for good.  This will allow me to be more vocal in the community and to get more enjoyment out of the community as well.

So, effective immediately, I will no longer be indexing podcasts.  I will, however, still be updating the site with any indexes sent to me.  So any of the podcasters that still want to send me indexes, I will still put them out there for you.  Also, if any of the podcasts that I do the index for wants to send me indexes, I’ll put those out there for you as well.  You can just look at your index pages on the site for the format.

If any of the listeners or hosts wish to take over this labor of love or wish to add thier own index information themselves, just let me know and I’ll set up a login for you.  Like I said, I’m not shutting down, just not indexing myself anymore.  At least for the time being.  And if you didn’t get an email from me, I apologize.  I tried to include everyone but may have missed one or two.

I send you all Blessings, Love, and all that brings you Joy

Contribute to the PPP

The Proud Pagan Podcasters is always looking for new volunteers to assist with general tasks that need to be done to keep this organization moving forward. Tasks you can volunteer for include handling the approval of new PPP members, soliciting podcasts to join the PPP and anything else you believe would benefit the Pagan podcasting community.

In return, those that contribute to the PPP will have their shows appear at the top of the shows listing page, allowing more people to find your show and listen to it. Lamyka and Dave contribute to the PPP extensively so their shows are on top. Do you want your show to be on top?

Leave a comment if you’re interested and able to contribute to the PPP.
